Oklahoma Gambling, Poker & Casinos

Many people enjoy the thrill of gambling: the opportunity to make money quickly and easily. If luck is on your side, then you might have the chance to change your life significantly. It is no surprise then, that gambling in the United States has undergone a big boom. Oklahoma alone anticipates making about 70 million dollars a year from the expanding gambling. During the past ten years most states have expanded legalized gaming, including lotteries and casino-style games. This is why the United States is seen as a gamblers paradise. This article will focus primarily on gambling in Oklahoma. I will discuss popular forms of gambling in this state, as well as future developments for improved gambling in Oklahoma. First, lets take a look at Oklahomas recent gambling legislation.

In November 2004, the people of Oklahoma voted on whether they wanted to extend the gambling industry in the state. Voters were asked: should Oklahoma authorize a state lottery? The answer was `yes. To find winning lottery number click here: Oklahoma Lottery Results. Fifteen years ago, gamblers were forced to go to Atlantic City, New Jersey, or Nevada to find legalized casino gambling. In 1996, voters in Oklahoma did not approve of a State Lottery. In the United States, forty-one states had legalized the lottery. There were nine states that did not have lotto, including Oklahoma. In February 1998, voters also decided against a casino initiative. Oklahomans are now, however, taking more interest in gambling opportunities. Only two states-Hawaii and Utah-do not have legalized gambling. Oklahoma has decided to play the game, not fold. Earlier this year, Oklahoma passed legislation allowing electronic bingo terminals at race tracks. Most states have already realized that having a lottery is an easy way to generate more money. This has led to competition between states. Oklahoma authorities now realize that if they do not expand gambling opportunities, then Oklahomans will simply spend their dollars in another state. Gambling, once considered a vice, is todays savior for a state looking to boost its economy. As a result, voters participating in the November election finally passed the measure overwhelmingly. Oklahoma now has its own lottery. It has been estimated that the lottery will bring in 150 million dollars per year.

With the expansion of legalized gambling, there are now more games on offer in Oklahoma. Gambling is incredibly popular in the United States at the moment, and there is a large range of opportunities for people wanting to gamble. There are casinos (including river boat casinos, Indian or tribal casinos), poker games, greyhounds, horsetracks, state lotteries, video poker parlors and so much more. Some states have more to offer gamblers. Oklahomans already gamble in other casinos in surrounding states including Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. With the passage of new gaming laws, however, there are lots of new gambling games being implemented in Oklahoma. For example, more card games are being offered in casinos in Oklahoma. Before, gamblers would have to travel to other states for this particular type of gambling. It has been reported that some gamblers now prefer to play these card games in Oklahoma rather than Vegas, the gambling capital of the world. Gamblers have said that they prefer the more relaxed atmosphere in Oklahoma casinos. They say that Vegas has become so cutthroat and intense. Oklahoma casinos still do not have the craps and roulette tables that Vegas gaming places possess. Furthermore, alcohol is still not served in most Oklahoma casinos. But Oklahoma is beginning to lure gamblers to its casinos, and compete with other states. Now Oklahoma is getting a chance to sample the winnings.

There is, however, an obvious downside to gambling. `Tulsa is a national hotline in Oklahoma for people with a gambling addiction. More than 200 calls are received each month from Oklahomans. Last year, the hotline took approximately 2,431 calls. Thankfully there is now more help at hand. In June this year, the head of the National Council on Problem Gambling recently announced that advice will soon be available on a statewide level. With no paid advertising for the hotline, those individuals with gambling problems were having to work very hard to find help. With no state agencies working in this field, the national group has informed gamblers of helpful resources on the internet. Having recognized that many gamblers in Oklahoma need extra help, support groups continue to look for ways to aid those in need. Gambling opportunities within Oklahoma continue to improve. Although it is still in the design phase, there are plans for a new Cherokee Nation Casino in Sallisaw. David Stewart, the Cherokee Nation Enterprises Inc. chief executive officer, has said that the casino will be located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Ruth Street and U.S. Highway 59. It will be a 25,000-square-foot facility, and employ approximately 120 people. This will be a casino that will stand apart from the rest; it will have a Native American theme inside. In addition, a Nevada gaming company (Ellis Gaming LLC) has also expressed interest in developing a new casino resort in Oklahoma. The first part of their plan is to expand the existing Kickapoo Casino, while overseeing a new destination resort. The new casino will boost the local economy and create more jobs. Gaming also creates revenue to invest in other opportunities; for example health care and education. Oklahoma needs extra funding. The cost increase of employee health insurance, fuel costs and federal environmental regulatory burdens, has led to a desperate exploration of other economic opportunities than sales tax revenue. The more casinos set up in Oklahoma, the larger the sales tax revenue. Better gambling opportunities in Oklahoma will allow the state to meet the increased cost of services.

In conclusion, gambling in Oklahoma is going through a series of changes. The recent expansion of legalized gambling within the state has led to an increase in the variety of games on offer. Gambling opportunities in Oklahoma will continue to grow and potentially change the economy of parts of Oklahoma. Oklahoma now has a state lottery, so go and buy a ticket quickly! You never know; your dreams may come true.
